Pramod Sawant (45), former Speaker of Goa legislative Assembly and MLA from Sankhelim in North Goa was on early Tuesday confirmed as eleventh Chief Minister of Goa, succeeding Manohar Parrikar, who passed on Sunday after a drawn-out fight with cutting edge pancreatic cancer. He was given the vow of office and mystery at Raj Bhavan close here by Goa Governor Mridula Sinha.
India news: Alongside the Chief Minister, Sudin pseudonym Ramkrishna Dhavlikar of Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) and Vijai Sardesai of Goa Forward Party were confirmed as Deputy Chief Ministers. The whole Cabinet of Manohar Parikkar has been held. The Ministers who were likewise sworn-in included Manohar Ajgaonkar (MGP), Rohan Khavtye (autonomous), Govind Gaude (free), Vinod Palyekar (Goa forward), Jayesh Salgaonkar (Goa Forward) and four of BJP, to be specific, Mauvin Godinho, Vishwajit Rane, Milind Naik, and Nilesh Cabral.
The BJP-drove collusion has a quality of 21 which included 12 of BJP, three each of MGP and Goa Forward Party and three Independents in the truncated House of 36 (40). The Opposition Congress has 14 MLAs while Nationalist Congress has one.
Thousands pay tributes to Parrikar
In the interim, the last rituals of the four-time Goa Chief Minister and previous Defense Minister were performed at Miramar close here on Monday evening. A 21-weapon salute was agreed to the BJP stalwart.
Mr. Parrikar's senior child Utpal lit the fire at Miramar shoreline as thousands say farewell to the left chief, lovingly alluded to as 'Bhai' crosswise over Goa.
The last voyage of Mr. Parrikar started from Kala Academy in the city with thousands joining the cortege. Many average citizens and gathering laborers lined the road to pay tributes to the pioneer.
